Gambling can be a serious problem for the gambler, as well as those around the gambler. Expatriates sometimes lack friends or communities which they feel comfortable with. Gambling can emotionally replace that community, for some people.
Gambling problems commonly 'creep up' on people. The gambling habit may start in childhood or youth, then there is frequently a relatively big win which is remembered; which gamblers feel 'can be repeated'. Some gamblers have even thought that the gambling activity can be their new career, so they stop or reduce their keeness on their current employment.
Our counselling will challenge beliefs that gambling is likely to be profitable. It will bring the reality that the odds will always be stacked against the client by the gambling industry. Gambling counselling will bring back the reality that the client does control if they gamble or not.
