Counselling works with the issues that the clients bring to the counselling process. We then will work towards understanding of how those issues developed. The issues which may trouble clients can be varied, they may be internal issues which are 'belonging' to the client; there are also issues which can be considered 'external' to the client. There are also, of course, issues which are internal to the client with a considerable ingredient which is external to the client.
The client normally will advise the counsellor what is the issue that they wish to work on. Frequently the presenting issue will lead to other issues which may be the actual background origin of the problem. For some clients this can be a deeply rooted situation, which can be resolved with the counselling process.
