Issues: Brian Dennis MBACP (Accred.), M.A.

Counselling works with a person's emotional processes and thoughts. Counselling encourages considerations that the client has in their present situation, with  an objective of understanding of what the client wants to achieve in their future. We then work towards what the client would like to have as their lives, that they do not have currently.

Counselling clients come to my practice to resolve and improve their issues, which may include:

  • gambling problems, of self or another person.
  • anxiety.
  • depression.
  • stress, either personal or professional.
  • lack of self-esteem.
  • anger, or a feeling that anger is building in yourself and is negatively affecting your lifestyle and/or your relationships.
  • frustration.
  • problems from a change of lifestyle and emotions resulting from relationship breakup, redundancy, etc.
  • a general feeling of being miserable, or not living life as you would wish and expect.
  • a lack of positivity in your life.
  • compulsions, including gambling and other behavioural problem issues.
  • couples counselling and relationships.
  • and many more.

As a counsellor, I focus on the issues that clients wish to work on or resolve. The future is often influenced by the past, so it is useful to understand past events and situations. With that understanding those issues can be worked on and the understanding of them improved.

There are situations when clients present with issues, which they then feel are their problems. Commonly presenting issues are based upon a different, past or historical, issue. Working towards understanding, possible resolving, some of those multiple issues may evolve in the situation with that client.
